What this service is
G.L. c. 41, § 94 provides that constables may serve demands, notices and citations by attested copy, and that their returns of that service are prima facie evidence — while also making clear that other persons may serve them.
Whether a particular notice must be delivered in a particular way is set by the statute, contract or rule that requires the notice. Tell us what the document is and, if you know it, the requirement it is meant to satisfy; we will review whether we can deliver it as requested.
What to provide
- The signed notice, demand or letter, with any enclosures
- The recipient’s name and delivery address
- Any delivery requirement you have been given (for example, by contract or by counsel)
- The date by which delivery must occur
Who typically requests it
How intake works
- Step 1
Complete the notices, demands and letters form
Answer the questions for this document and upload the complete set. You can save and finish later.
- Step 2
Receive your reference number
You and Civil Constable both receive an email confirmation. Your request is now in the review queue — not yet accepted.
- Step 3
Review
We check the document type, the delivery address against available authority, any delivery requirement you identify and the deadline.
- Step 4
Scope, quote and authorization
If the assignment can be accepted, you review and authorize the written scope and quote in your portal. Work begins after authorization.
- Step 5
Attempts and completion record
Attempts follow the accepted plan. You receive status updates and the applicable return or completion record.
Important limitations
- We do not draft notices or demands, or advise whether a notice satisfies a legal requirement.
- Delivery documents the act of delivery; it does not establish that the recipient read or agreed to the document.
