How we protect it
The site uses HTTPS throughout. Uploaded documents are stored outside the public website, encrypted at rest, and available only to authorized Civil Constable staff and to you through your portal. Downloads require an authenticated session and expiring links. Staff accounts use individual logins with strong passwords and can use two-factor authentication. Access to request records is logged. We maintain a written information security program as required for personal information of Massachusetts residents (201 CMR 17.00). Confirm before launch: Civil Constable maintains a written information security program (WISP)
No system is perfectly secure. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by G.L. c. 93H.
How long we keep it
We keep request records and documents for as long as needed to perform the service, maintain business and service records, and meet legal obligations. Uploaded documents for closed requests are deleted according to our retention schedule; a record that the service occurred (reference number, dates, status history and returns) may be kept longer. Confirm before launch: retention period for uploaded documents after a request closes (configured as RETENTION_DAYS) and for service records Unsubmitted drafts expire after 14 days. Portal sign-in links expire after 30 minutes.
