Civil process services
Each service has its own request form with the questions that matter for that document. Available services depend on the facts of each request.

Service of a summons and complaint in a Massachusetts civil action, reviewed against the court, the amount at issue and the service address.

Service of Massachusetts and federal civil subpoenas — testimony, deposition and records — with witness-fee and mileage instructions reviewed up front.

Documented delivery of a notice to quit already prepared by the landlord or counsel, with a constable’s return describing the delivery.

Service of summary process summonses and complaints and related court documents, timed against the entry date.

Documented delivery of notices, demands and legal correspondence, subject to document-type and geographic review.

If a court has appointed or authorized a particular server, send the signed order with the documents so the assignment can be reviewed against its exact terms.

Time-sensitive requests receive priority review when capacity, legal timing, document readiness and travel permit. Same-day action is confirmed only on acceptance.

A Massachusetts constable
Civil Constable holds a Massachusetts constable appointment. That is the starting point for every review — not a promise of statewide authority.
Each request is checked against the document, the service location, the deadline and the applicable source of authority before anything is accepted. When an assignment needs a court order or another qualified provider, we say so plainly.
From intake to return
Nothing is assumed. You see each stage, and work begins only after you accept a written scope.
Documents, address, deadline, court information and instructions through the service’s own form.
Document category, geography, dates, apparent authority, recipient details and operational risks.
If the assignment can be accepted, you receive the scope, price and timing to authorize.
Attempts follow the accepted plan; activity is recorded and reported to authorized contacts.
The applicable return, affidavit or completion record, delivered as agreed.
Professional and individual requesters

Matter references, authorized contacts, billing details, deadline and event-date review, documented attempts and secure delivery of returns — in one structured intake.

Documented delivery of notices you or your attorney have prepared, and service of summary process documents timed against the entry date. We don’t select notices or calculate legal dates.
Also serving businesses, agencies, out-of-state firms with Massachusetts matters, and self-represented parties with documents already prepared.

Authority before assumptions
Civil Constable reviews requests from across Massachusetts. A location appearing within an operational service area doesn’t automatically establish legal authority for every document.
Depending on the assignment, authority may come from a constable appointment, a court rule, a specific court order or another applicable source. Some requests may be accepted after review; others need additional authorization, coordination with another qualified provider, or referral.
The document, location, deadline and source of authority support accepting the assignment.
A signed court order or other authorization is needed before the assignment can proceed.
The request falls outside available authority, geography or capacity and may be routed to an appropriate provider.

All frequently asked questions

No. Submission confirms that we received your request for review. An assignment is accepted only after its document, location, timing, authority and operational requirements have been reviewed and you have approved the written scope or quote. You receive a reference number immediately and an email confirming receipt.
Not automatically — it depends on the document and the source of authority. Under G.L. c. 41, § 92, a constable’s statutory authority to serve civil process applies within the appointing city or town. Some documents can lawfully be served by others — for example, Massachusetts civil subpoenas may be served by a non-party adult under Rule 45(c) — and a court can appoint a special process server under Rule 4(c). An assignment may be accepted under applicable authority, may require a court order or other authorization, or may be referred. See Coverage and Authority.
No. We can agree to a lawful attempt plan and a communication standard, but we can’t control a recipient’s availability, and we can’t guarantee personal service, court acceptance or a particular legal outcome.
Rush requests receive priority review, but availability isn’t confirmed until the complete documents, service location, deadline, authority, travel and current capacity have been evaluated. A request marked urgent is not automatically accepted. Use the rush request form, then call us if your deadline is within hours.
No. Civil Constable is not a law firm and does not select legal forms, calculate legal deadlines or provide legal strategy. For legal guidance, contact a licensed Massachusetts attorney. The Massachusetts courts also offer free procedural help through Court Service Centers.
No. Upload sensitive documents through the secure request form or your portal. Uploaded files are encrypted at rest and are not attached to ordinary emails. Use email and the contact form only for non-sensitive questions.
Pricing depends on the document, address, distance, deadline, number of recipients, attempt plan, mailing requirements, witness fees, wait time, return method and any rush handling. Submit the assignment details to receive a written quote. Any statutory fee component is identified separately from operational charges. See Pricing Factors.
